Proportion is fun to play with.

Over-sized art & décor like large potted plants are a great way to dominate a space & distract from not so pretty areas. Be careful not to dominate the purpose of the room, or the balance is lost. In a bedroom, this is the bed. In a Lounge Room it should be the sofa. But then add your feature piece as the next largest & it will pop, like a floor mounted artwork in a bedroom. Proportion works best if it is an item which is usually smaller in size, such as a clock. The unusual nature of it being larger will draw your attention to it.
