#19 Lines
We have a load of lines in your homes without even noticing. This could be straight lines from timber flooring or wall tiles, stripes in wallpaper or furniture, or the way our kitchen cabinetry has been laid out.
Work your lines.
Vertical lines make rooms look taller, horizontals on the walls make them appear wider. Floor boards running along a hallway draws your eye to the end of the hall or floorboards across the hall draws you to artwork on walls either side. Use lines to stop children passing thresholds of rooms they aren’t allowed in, & thin pendant lines over an island benches bring you back down to that space. Modern styles use more horizontal, large lines & traditional focuses more on vertical thinner lines. Try not to confuse the eye with multiple directions in your home.
