#9 Add Texture
Homes are meant to be felt. Thicker carpet or rugs underfoot feel decadent, soft cushions give us something to hug & knitted throws let us wrap ourselves in love.
Texture adds depth to a room. It adds a slight colour variation as light hits it & texture gives comfort. It also diffuses sound. This makes it great for open-planned living rooms to soften the noise. Most people complain about curtains or drapes as they can be hard to detach or wash. Texture, being layered can attract dust, so just make these items easy to clean. Carpet or rugs can be vacuumed, cushions or throws washed, plants, lamps & picture frames can be dusted. Even just a wicker basket on a bookshelf can make all the difference to a room.
